Zeitgeist (em português)

Você pode nunca ter ouvido falar no termo acima. Fiz uma pesquisa sobre “zeitgeist” no Google e encontrei definições como “espírito da época”, por exemplo. Bem, o termo refere-se a um movimento, na verdade, não apenas a um vídeo. Nessa postagem, entretanto, vou considerar os vídeos, em princípio.

Chegou ao meu conhecimento o segundo vídeo primeiro: “Zeitgeist – Addendum”. Boa trilha sonora, conceito... Fotografia. O mesmo eu diria sobre o primeiro. Mas eu tenho pouco a dizer sobre a forma. Não teria a precisão necessária para falar a respeito. Quanto ao conteúdo, muitas palavras. Serei concisa.

O primeiro vídeo inicia com uma série de críticas às instituições religiosas. Aquela velha querela sobre Religião X Pensamento político/ crítico: “a religião é o ópio das massas” e por aí vai. Sim. A religião pode ser isso mesmo no mundo de hoje como pode ter sido em outros períodos da história. Ainda assim, seria uma afirmação parcial, pois graças à “religião”, tivemos o fomento para o estudo de línguas vernáculas, para criação da imprensa e desenvolvimento do conhecimento. Não nos esqueçamos de quem promoveu (paradoxalmente, também bloqueou) o conhecimento na Idade Média.


Contudo, o primeiro e o segundo vídeo juntos apontam uma questão muito importante: nosso modelo atual de civilização é, na verdade, um modelo não-civilizado e auto-destrutivo. Sua instituição mais cruel: o dinheiro. Parece óbvio que se trata de uma questão de tempo para outro império cair. O mesmo aconteceu com os romanos, com o império bizantino etc. A história mostra que nenhum império dura para sempre. O que nós temos visto acontecer é um dando lugar a outro. E sempre esse outro que se proclama como a solução da época e se revela depois outra falácia. Ainda assim, nós persistimos. Por quê?

Como protestante e calvinista, tenho uma resposta para isso. Uma resposta que vem a mim através da fé cristã, que é encontrada nas Escrituras. Como parte de uma sociedade, observo que nós não temos a tendência de selecionar e filtrar informações tão cuidadosamente como deveríamos. Precisamos de tudo rápido, dificilmente mastigamos nossas refeições adequadamente. “Tempo é dinheiro”. Mas, por outro lado, vale a pena ver o que acontece em outras direções. Mudar nossas lentes e observar as coisas de um diferente ângulo. Então separe um tempo para assistir aos dois e dê a si um pouco de “pano pra manga” para pensar.

Zeitgeist

You may not have ever heard about it. I googled the term above, "zeitgeist", and found out something like "the spirit of the times". Well, that refers to a movement, actually. Not only to a video. But to this post, I'll consider the videos at first.

I happened to know the second video first. It's called "Zeitgeist - Addendum". Good soundtrack, concept... Camera. The same about the first. But I have little to say about the form. I wouldn't have enough accuracy to talk about it. As for the content, thousand words. I'll be concise, though.

The first video starts by criticising religious institutions. That very old issue about Religion X Political/ Critical thinking: "religion is the opium of the people" and so and so. Yeah, it can be nowadays as it was in other periods of our History. Yet, it's a partial statement, for thanks to "religion", we had the promoting of vernacular language studies, printing press, and knowledge itself. Let's not forget who promoted (and paradoxally also blocked) knowledge in the Middle Ages.

Nevertheless, the first and second video altogether point out a very important issue: that our current model of civilization is actually "uncivilized", and self-destructive. The cruellest institution: money. It turns to be obvious that it is a matter of time for another empire fall. The same happened with The Romans, The Bizantine, etc. History shows that no empire endures forever. What we have seen to happen is that one gives place to another, and it is always one that allegedly claims to be the solution of the time, and reveals itself as being another failure. Yet, we're persistent. Why?

As calvinist protestant, I got an answer for this. An answer that comes through Christian spirituality, that is found in the Scriptures. As part of a society, I observe that we tend not to select and filter information as carefully as we should. We need things fast, we barely chew our meals properly. "Time is money". But, on the other hand, it is worth it to see what goes in other directions. Change our lenses and observe things from a different point of view. So take time to watch both videos, and give yourself some food for thought.
